haiz..my guesses are half-correct..i read finished peter carey's book, Wrong about Japan and here are some points tat i haf read..
About Mr Tomino Yoshiyuki's comment about his thoughts of starting Gundam:
"Gundam was launched just to sell toy robots,".."to create a product that people would buy. There is no real inspiration behind it. He made Gundam because it was his job to make Gundam. And before Gundam, he made lots of animations which were also used to advertise robot toys."..."You see, Mr. Tomino was also very interested in science fiction, so he wanted to make something like a movie and that could incorporate these robots. That was his job. But when he was asked to make Gundam, the only condition he had was that the robot should be twenty metres tall. Then the toy makers wanted him to have a one-hundred-metre robot."
arrgghh...his real inspiration was this??????
and to why Gundam's pilots were children..:
"And then the toy manufacturers wanted the characters to be children, because children will buy the toys. But it is true.".."that the theme of having the battlefield and children is a very interesting one for Mr. Tomino. He can remember something about WWII and of course he heard stories from his father and his father's friends. At that time in Japan you had to go to military academy when you were sixteen, to war when you are seventeen. Boys became adults between ages of thirteen and fifteen. Also, you must remember there had been samurai who fought on battlefields where they were as young as thirteen."
hmmm..that explains why...
Mr. Carey's question to Yuka, the lady who wrote the book titled: Gundam officials Limited Edition,
on: "Why children, at war, was isolated in the belly of the Gundam, alienated from each other?"
"Yuka says it is not like that at all. She thinks that being a pilot in a Mobile Suit is exactly like being inside a womb.".."When you see these robots being knocked about and hurt, you'll notice the person operating the robot is also in pain. She says that if you think about that logically, it shouldn't happen. They should be like the guys in a military tank, getting knocked around a little roughly perhaps, but you must understand that these pilots are in the womb. They feel what the mother feels. A manga critic once said that when a person is in the womb of the robot, that robot's armour becomes that person's body. This is quite the opposite of your idea that being inside the Mobile Suit is like isolating yourself from the world. For her, it is a safe place in which you can
interact with the world."
lolx..and then his son charley at first ate japanese bfast which consist of miso soup, rice, pickles, fish..and he ate it eagerly..onli for the fifth day..he gradually ate lesser and lesser..and he commented "this is the breakfast from hell" WHAAHHAH! and he say he wanted doughnuts..
and ARGH...another excerpt from the book:
And there, across the counter, I saw a compact man with a grey beard. It was Hayao Miyazaki, walking towards Charley and extending his hand.
I SO JEALOUS AT THIS LEH! damn it! T____T
